Fashion Week in New York has just wrapped up showcasing the hottest designs for fall 2013. Filled with both high concept and ready wear designs, Fashion Week also previewed trends you are more than likely to see in the upcoming wedding season.
With the release of Great Gatsby this summer high glamour, art deco fashion made a huge splash on the runway. Collections by J Mendel, Christian Siriano and Naeem Khan featured dresses that could make the transition from the runway to the aisle.
Colored Wedding Dresses have been making a comeback over the last couple of seasons. Here at the Event Company we are even in the process of helping one of our brides search for a purple wedding dress for her Jamaican inspired wedding. One of the prettiest colored gowns was a romantic grey dress by Marchesa featured below. A big presence in Fashion Week was the classic color combination of black and white. A highlight of this trend was a floral dress designed by Reem Acra. Some other notable trends were exposed midriffs, atypical necklines, and one shoulder dresses. Looks by Marios Schwab and Marchesa could serve as inspiration for a more adventurous bride.
Fashion Week not only dictates upcoming styles for brides but many designer dresses can be translated into what the wedding party and guests will wear. Following in the steps of Pantone’s color of the year Emerald, jewel tones were a major trend in many collections. I can see versions of the sparkling burgundy dress by Badgley Mischka and the sapphire blue Zac Posen make their way into many wedding parties. Even if you are not getting married or part of a wedding this season you can still take cues from the fashion elite. Attending a formal wedding or rehearsal dinner? The Vera Wang dress below is a different take on the little black dress.
Hair, Makeup and Accessories are also an integral part of both Fashion Week and Weddings. Here are some items that I loved and will be recommending to our brides: (Clockwise in the pictures below)
Brides are always looking for ways to add an extra special personal touch to their upcoming nuptials. From monograms to picture walls there are a 101 ways to customize your wedding. A great budget friendly & unique idea for any bride is do it yourself center pieces. Inspired by my cousin’s upcoming wedding in May, I recently learned to make my own Mercury Glass. It can be dressed up or dressed down to meet several styles of weddings, but more importantly it always adds a beautiful, romantic sparkle to the center of any table. Mercury glass is especially great when you are going for a vintage feel. Paired with pastel-colored roses, flickering candles and soft ivory linens, mercury glass vases and candle holders will make your guests feel like they are in a different era. There are several Mercury Tutorials online but my favorite comes from lovelylittledetails.com. For my next DYI project I am going to try to take on Mercury Glass Contact Paper!

Green has always been one of my favorite colors. This past year I noticed it popping up in more events. Needless to say I was very pleased when I saw that Pantone crowned Emerald as 2013’s color of the year. Pantone describes their newly anointed color as, “Lively. Radiant. Lush… A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony.” I don’t know if I am just worn out after the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, but beautiful emerald accents remind me of the tranquility of being outdoors. Not only is this striking jewel tone aesthetically pleasing, but is a multi-versatile hue that can easily add an element of sophistication to your wedding day. For an outdoor wedding Emerald, mixed with lighter and darker shades of green & accents of cream, can only enhance your natural setting by drawing inspiration from the surroundings. Emerald will be sure to glam up your indoor space. You can incorporate it not only into your attire, floral arrangements, and table settings but you can really stun your guests by having the room lit in the beautiful jewel tone. Easily mixed with other colors, Emerald goes especially well with purple, pinks and gold. Here are some great examples below that can serve as inspiration during your planning process:

This past weekend I had the pleasure of assisting my dear friends Meredeth and Jeff with their wedding. And what a weekend it was! With Meredeth turning 30 that same day, their favorite musician playing at the Jeff the night before, and Valentine’s Day this week, it seemed an opportune time to celebrate. Nothing about this wedding was traditional. From the Flash Mob ceremony on the Downtown Mall to the Hot Pink and Zebra color scheme and the late night Breakfast Burritos, this wedding was the epitome of a DIY event. Family and friends came together with only 4 weeks to plan and everyone was able to make magic happen. I cannot wait to show the full professional picture gallery, but in the meantime here are a few small pics taken by the couple’s friends. Hopefully this will tie you over.
