Custom Catering March 30, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — theeventcompany @ 8:29 pm

Although we have a wide variety of catering menus available, we often find ourselves creating a custom menu to compliment each clients vision.  This coming weekend we have a menu tasting for a client that approached us looking for a family style dinner that says “Upscale”, “Virginia” and ”Fried Chicken”.  Chef had a great time creating the selections below and we can’t wait to try them all on Saturday!

Happy Friday! March 27, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — theeventcompany @ 2:06 pm

This is one of our last quiet weekends before wedding & catering season really kicks off!  Sheila is in Florida (and the rest of us are jealous) but I think I will make up for it by visiting some of the vineyards with friends on Sunday.

Speaking of local vineyards, we visited Pollak Vineyards last weekend to look at options for catering & hosting events there.  They have a great area for tenting and the views are amazing!  We were also able to do a barrel tasting and the wines are very impressive as well.  Worth checking out for an event…or just a weekend tasting!

Crazy Cookies! March 25, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — theeventcompany @ 2:42 pm

One of our Spring wedding clients decided that they prefer cookies over cake- especially when they are made by a new local favorite, Cappellino’s Crazy Cakes.   They did a cookie tasting (we did too!) and the winners are- Double Chocolate Chip, Fruit & Nut, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip and Heath Cookies.  YUM! And although we decide to stick to cookies, the cupcakes get a thumbs up too.  My Fall favorite was the Pumpkin Cake with Sweet Cream Cheese.  I better go back and pick one for Spring!

We are still considering several ideas for displaying the cookies in May but I think these cake stands from Clara French & Pot Luck Studios will do the trick!

Lately, I’ve been inspired by all of our bride’s creative ideas for their wedding guest books. Sometimes the guest book can be a last minute decision,  but I must commend our clients on their imaginative ideas! Take a look at the following for inspiration!

Let your guests sign various pages of interesting books

Saturday’s ‘BIG GIG’ March 24, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — theeventcompany @ 8:56 pm

In the event business a ‘big gig’ is a general term used for a large event but the Boys and Girls Club of Charlottesville-Albemarle has given the term a whole new meaning! Their annual fundraiser, titled THE BIG GIG, was held at John Paul Jones arena on Saturday night and we were very excited to be part of it again this year! We provided catering for the event and chef customized a menu to match their Asian inspired theme.
Thanks to the Boys and Girls Club of Charlottesville-Albemarle for including us!  Photos coming soon…in the meantime, a preview of their signage designed by Watermark Design.

We are really looking forward to Jenn and Matt’s October 17th wedding at Ash Lawn Highland! Jenn is a brand manager for Cibu International with a great sense of style.  Matt owns a corporate catering company called Fresh Lunch Catering in DC and has created a custom menu for their big day.  In order to share the details of their wedding with family & friends, Jenn decided to create a blog.  Jen has titled their color palate “Technicolor Autumn Afternoon” and we can’t wait to help make their vision come to life!

Last night The Event Company, The AV Company and Clarie Goodman with Charlottesville Wedding Blog & Sacred Ground Ceremonies  hosted the Charlottesville Event & Wedding Professionals Gathering at the X lounge in Charlottesville! What a great time!

It was incredible to see over 100 event professionals in the same space sharing ideas, networking and taking the time to just catch up with each other before a busy Spring season begins!  It was certainly proof that it takes a huge team effort to pull off the events & weddings that you see posted on all of our websites & blogs.

Thanks to everyone who attended! We plan to have other similar event throughout the year and will keep you all posted on the plans.

Photos from last night coming soon!
