Homestead Preserve May 26, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — theeventcompany @ 6:26 pm

Thank you to our friends at The Homestead Preserve for including us in their wonderful Memorial Weekend dinner!

Built in 1928, the Old Dairy Barn complex at Homestead Preserve once served all the dairy needs of The Homestead and was Bath County’s only commercial dairy.  Today there are seven original buildings, built in the Colonial Revival and Craftsman styles, as well as two silos making up the Old Dairy complex.

Old Dairy served The Homestead well into the 1970s, but was then abandoned for three decades.  Thanks to the $6 million restoration efforts of Homestead Preserve, the complex has been revitalized into a community center, complete with recreational facilities, meeting space, and Homestead Preserve Community Association and Virginia Hot Springs Preservation Trust offices.

Old Dairy is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is also designated a Virginia Historic Landmark.

We had a great time taking the drive over to Bath County to offer our catering services to the group of 90 on a perfect summer evening!

We will see you in October!

Get Inside an IPOD May 21, 2009

Portaparty

Looking for a hip new music alternative at your next event? If you want to add just a touch of sound, take  a look at the Porta-Party concept by L.A.-based artist Nick Rodrigues.

Gadget Lab writes: “Porta-Party is a roughly iPod-shaped booth you can walk into. Just shut the door, crank it up, and get crazy. But watch out: Once you go in, it appears that the iPod’s screen displays a video of whatever is happening inside.”

So supply your guests with music, or let them play their own tunes!

Bennington Bliss May 18, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — theeventcompany @ 8:02 pm

I spent the weekend in Bennington, Vermont and I couldn’t help but think what a unique wedding registry you could create at Bennington Potters!  They have been making handmade stoneware pottery in Vermont since 1948!  Although it’s a great resource for gifts, I couldn’t help but  purchase a few things for myself.  Start your wish list or gift registry here.

If you decide to go check out the pottery in person, take a look at The Hubbell Homestead while you are there.  It just may make you consider a destination Vermont wedding!  You can’t go wrong with the mountain views, beautifully restored barn and a tent in place for most of the year!

Try to plan your visit during Bennington’s Moosefest! The 2009 unveiling is this coming Tuesday…I wish I could have stayed a little longer!

Laura & Charlie May 13, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — theeventcompany @ 4:50 pm

We have just received a selection of gorgeous images from David Schwartz who photographed the May wedding of Laura and Charlie.

While we were worried the weather may not hold, and rain may come our way, the day ended up being perfect with a spring wind rustling through the manicured fields of Castle Hill Farm. Guests from around the country joined Laura and Charlie for an intimate ceremony at Grace Church, and reception held at the restored romantic barn at Castle Hill. David did a lovely job of capturing all of the details and special moments of the day. Thank you for being a joy to work with and providing Laura and Charlie with captivating images.

Finally, thank you to Laura and Charlie for allowing us to work with both you and your families for the last year to create such a special and memorable wedding.

Congratulations to Darcey Ohlin of Watermark Design (the graphic designer who always makes us look good) and Andrea Sarate (our client and big fan of our lemoncello tarts) of Magnifire Marketing on winning the Gold Last night at The Central Virginia American Marketing Association EMMA Awards.   They teamed up to work on Old Trail Village and won the Overall Marketing Excellence Award!

The event was held at The X Lounge (thank you AMA for choosing our space!) and we created a living ‘EMMA’ to share in the fun!  The Daily Progress said it best…view their article

Lovely Letters May 8, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — theeventcompany @ 5:47 pm

We are always searching for new wonderful vendors to work with.  I stumbled upon this lovely calligraphy work on Etsy from eDanae, and can’t wait to see her work in person!

This calligraphy really stands out and what a wonderful first impression to give your guests of your wedding day when they open their hand addressed envelope to find the following pieces inside! I especially love the light ink on dark envelopes, stunning!
