It’s been a busy Summer and start to Fall for us here at The Event Company! We haven’t been so great about keeping up with the blog but we promise to catch you up on all of the events that we have been away working on! I started gathering photos to share today and this one reminded me of the super fun wedding that we did for Kathy & Desmond in June.  Kathy is a teacher and said she wanted the moonbounce for her students…hmmmm.

This summer working for The Event Company has been a wonderful experience.  I have learned so much about what goes on to produce fabulous events.  There are so many small details that you wouldn’t think of yourself that they manage to notice.  Not only has working with them been a good learning opportunity, but it was a lot of fun.  Each day is something new and different.  I am coming out of this summer with knowing how much goes on in event planning, and countless new nick names.

This past weekend we hosted a going away party for Grant and Jana.  The party consisted of themes from around the world.  There was the Aussie-Beach side (the linens and table decorations) and then the Mexican Fiesta side (the Margarita station during cocktails, and the fajita food station for dinner).  There was also a sushi bar set up during cocktails which all the guests enjoyed.  All food was provided by The Event Company.  The flowers for the tables were provided by Eric Lamb at A New Leaf florist.  The AV Company provided equipment for a photo slide show made by a guest.  Bill Smith from The Photosmith was there to photograph the party and gave us some great shots.  Good Luck to Grant and Jana in Australia!

The event company has always tried to be as community and environmentally responsible as possible in terms of our catering & events.  Recently we have seen a big increase in clients who want to make their weddings Green as well.  Here are a few tips-

  • Order Eco-friendly invitations
  • Use online websites & e-mail blasts vs. paper save the dates & out of town information
  • Local, organic catering
  • Donate to an environmentally friendly charity in place of favors
  • Have your make-up artist use organic make-up
  • Hire eco-friendly transportation (limo services that run on bio diesel, hybrid cars)
  • Choose locations that are close to each other or hold all events at the same site
  • Source all items locally
  • Use soy candles
  • Choose organic flowers or potted plants that can be re-planted after the event
  • Select organic wines
  • Wedding and Bridesmaid dresses made from organic materials are available
  • Choose digital photography vs. film
  • Select Wedding Rings made from recycled gold or vintage jewelry

Tent Events July 19, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — theeventcompany @ 5:00 pm

We love tents!  They give us a blank canvas to work with and it’s amazing how the tent can look completely different every single time.  Most of you have probobly been to a tented event and seen the final product but we thought we would share a selection of ‘before & after’ images from one of our June events.  This particular event involved a 4 day tent, lighting & decor installation by Skyline Tent Company & The AV Company but the final result was completely worth it!

We approached John Hingeley at  Skyline Tent Company about doing something unique and different for Stuart & John’s wedding at The Clifton Inn.  They proposed a square white dinner tent with an attached clear top tent for dancing.  Each tent would have it’s own stage for the multiple bands that we had hired and the clear tent would have a raised solid white dance floor to go along with our ‘white lounge’ that we planned to create.  They said it would just BARELY fit on Clifton’s front lawn but they were willing to try!

Given those parameters, JF Legault created a lighting design plan which included projecting a pattern onto a 10′ tall panel of fabric wrapped around the center tent poles. We also lit the inside of the dinner tent and the exterior top of the tent.  The dance tent included pinspotting on all tables, a pattern on the dance floor, moving intelligent lighting and white paper lanters over the dance floor.  All tent poles were disguised with white fabric panels.  The AV Company executed the plan perfectly!

Thank you to Skyline & The AV Company for all of your hard work! Here are some before & after shots of the installation and final product.  More photos from photographer Eric Kelley coming soon!

Turcadoodles! July 17, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — theeventcompany @ 2:41 am

When our Catering Manager, Defne, isn’t running the show at one of the event compay’s events or cutting wheat grass to the perfect height for our ’shrimp on the lawn’ canape she creates custom cards called ‘Turcadoodles’.  The name results from Defne being Turkish and the fact that she calls her talent for custom card creating ‘doodling’.

Turcadoodles are hand cut cards available in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors and thoughts.  In fact, no two are alike.  Each ‘doodle’ is held together by something cool…anything from a Turkish evil eye for good luck to a piece of recycled jewelry.

Custom Turcadoodles are available for wedding & event stationary, monogrammed pieces or for any other special occasion.  Visit her blog HERE or e-mail  turcadoodles@gmail.com to create a doodle of your very own.

Surprise! It’s your wedding cake! July 12, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — theeventcompany @ 3:54 pm

One of my best friends from childhood, Kathy, was married on June 21st at Pharsalia Estate and selected the event company to handle the catering.  I will be doing a full posting once we have more pictures but I just couldn’t wait to share the cake!

Kathy and her husband Desmond wanted their wedding cake to be a surprise to them on the big day and turned the project over to Kathy’s sister, her dad and myself.  Jenny, her sister,  lives in Kentuckly but did A LOT of research on local cake options.  She wanted something made fresh, with all natural ingredients and most importantly, unique & fun.  When she sent me Anita at Maliha Creation’s website I know she was the right choice.

Kathy’s dad and I met with Maliha to taste the flavors (yum!) and after sharing the linens & invitation that Kathy had chosen with her she sent back several sketches for us to choose from.  I fell in love with her ‘puzzle cake’ option right away and Jenny agreed.  It was fun, unique, included three yummy flavors and was just perfect for Kathy & Desmond.

Kathy also requested matching cupcakes for the kids & a birthday cake for several guests who celebrated their birthdays at the wedding.

Anita also blogs about her creations HERE.
